Many of us have been dismayed to have a great BlackBerry on a less than satisfatory carrier. We might think "If only I could use this on another network!" Have no fear. That's why BlackBerry unlocking is here.
Here are some facts to remember about unlocking:
1. If your cell phone has a SIM card, your provider uses GSM. Currently carriers on the GSM network include, AT&T Wireless and T-Mobile.Typically if you buy an unlocked cell phone any SIM card should work equally as well in that phone regardless of the provider.
2. The other network is called Code Division Multiple Access or CDMA for short. CDMA phones do not have a SIM card and thus even if you purchase an unlocked CDMA cell phone you still have to get your carrier to activate it for you.
3. Should you ever need to sell your phone, an unlocked phone is much more valuable than a locked one.
4. Unlocking your phone allows you to get a divorce from your carrier without changing phones.
5. Possibility of dual, tri or even quad band functions allowing you to use your phone in even more countries around the globe. |
